CREATING A NEW MEASURE
Current measures of sexism, misogyny and gender inequality (SMGI) often focus on adult populations or on attitudes rather than experiences of SMGI in young people.
We will bring groups of young people together in workshops to discuss findings from our interviews and survey results to co-create a new measure of experiences of sexism for young people aged 11-18. This new measure will be a set of questions that better reflect what SMGI look like in everyday life today. Next, we will test these questions using a technique called cognitive interviewing – this means we will check that the questions make sense, are easy to understand, and truly reflect young people’s real life experiences. We will also work with experts to ensure quality, validity and reliability of the new measure.
