KIYOTO kASAI
University of Tokyo Research Lead
Kiyoto is a psychiatrist and researcher working with adolescent cohort studies in Japan, where he leads the measurement of biological markers linked to mental health and development. His research focuses on how young people’s minds and brains develop during adolescence, and how we can identify signs of distress early enough to offer timely support. He has specialist expertise in MRI analysis, which helps us understand brain development in relation to emotions, behaviour, and wellbeing. Alongside research, he is committed to co-production: working in equal
partnership with people who have lived experience of mental health difficulties, respecting them as experts by experience, and designing better services together. He also teaches medical students about the importance of diversity and inclusion in healthcare.
